Memorial Update:
We still have a little way to go reaching our required
Memorial Target of £40,000. Donors and donations will be fully acknowledged.
In the meantime the foundations for the brickwork and gates were completed
in January by Scott developments. Unfortunately the excessive wet weather of
late delayed further work. However a volunteer party of 2nd
Battalion REME personnel under the leadership of R.S.M Mark Carlisle will be
visiting the Staffordshire National Memorial Arboretum 1st week
in May in order to build the only UK Memorial Dedicated to the memory of
those made Prisoner of War in Mid East and European theatres of War. REME
volunteers have already applied their specialist skills to the manufacture
of the “Gates of Freedom” and the Bronze Legend Plates. The memorial
committee fortified by the enthusiasm and kindness of 2nd
Battalion Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers Personnel are agreed that
the inaugural Dedication Ceremony of our Memorial will be
Saturday 21st July 2007 and are focused on ensuring that
all will go well on that day. Standards are welcome.
